The Summer Workshop of the Ship and Offshore Decarbonization Technology Committee was held on August 31st (Thursday) at the Korea Institute of Energy Research. The workshop featured expert presentations on synthesis technologies of methanol and ammonia, currently spotlighted candidates of carbon-free fuels, followed by presentations on wet and dry carbon capturing technologies.

The expert presentations were followed by tours of experimental facilities and pilot plants, providing insights on technology development trends. With more than 50 participants from universities, research institutes, and companies, a lively Q&A session followed the presentations. In particular, Executive Vice President Kim Chang-wook of Korean Register presented the outcome and implications of the 80th MEPC meeting as well as recent trends in alternative shipping fuels, emphasizing the need for Korean shipbuilding and maritime companies to work with their upstream and downstream sectors to respond to the fierce global competition in securing future value chains.
