The 2023 Spring Research Meeting of the Ship Production Technology Research Committee was held from June 22nd (Thursday) to 23rd (Friday) at the Korea Maritime & Ocean University in Busan. More than 110 experts in the field of shipbuilding and offshore production, mainly from large Korean shipbuilders, attended the meeting, which served as a venue for creative and productive academic exchanges. The research meeting was organized into subcategories, in line with the five subcommittees: Production System, Machining Technology, Automation, Welding, and Painting Methods, where a total of 42 research findings were presented.
The research meeting covered a variety of research topics on production technology in the shipbuilding and offshore sector, with a particular focus on the application of DX technology to production sites and the construction of smart shipyards. In addition, with most members coming from production-related sites and research departments, proactive and lively discussions took place on the latest issues for each sub-committees.
The research meeting provided an opportunity for the participants to look back at the path taken so far and served as a forum to facilitate in-depth discussions around the future development of the shipbuilding and offshore industry. The meeting was a success, offering research group members a platform to communicate and interact freely with one another, completely free from the effects of the pandemic. The intense interest in knowledge exchange resulted in a lively atmosphere with passionate presentations and discussions throughout the two days.
