The 70th Workshop of the Ship Hydrodynamics Research Committee in 2023 was held from August 23rd to 24th, 2023 at the Hanwha Ocean’s Siheung R&D Campus. Despite the rainy weather, researchers in the field of ship hydrodynamics from all over the country came together, taking part in various presentations and in-depth discussions on a number of topics. A total of 8 research findings and 18 review papers were presented.

Prof. Kim Yong-Hwan (Seoul National University) and Prof. Ahn Byung-Kwon (Chungnam National University), former presidents of the Committee,  set an example for future students by presenting their ongoing research findings. In addition, as a follow-up to the last workshop, Dr. Cho Yurim (August 2023, Pusan National University) presented on the topic of her dissertation as a new Ph. D. recipient in the field of ship hydrodynamics.

In addition, two presentations were on the topic of Rankine panel method, proving the validity of potential flow analysis as well as its application feasibility and significance. There were also other presentations on ship maneuvering and motion analysis using CFD, as well as research on the reduction of air resistance when using CFD on site. Despite the decrease in the absolute number of presentations from previous workshops, there were still plenty of in-depth presentation and lively discussion.
