Hanwha Ocean plans to transform its entire shipyard into a big data-driven smart yard through robot-based processes and logistics automation. It is their strategy to lead a paradigm shift for the future of the maritime industry while coping with the decline in skilled production resources.

To this end, Hanwha Ocean will prioritize in the safety of shipbuilding processes through automation by leveraging on advanced digital technologies such as IoT and AI. The integration of optimized production processes together with automation technologies and robotic-driven digital yards will replace high-risk and high-difficulty tasks in the future. 
 

Hanwha Ocean has already introduced an AI-based hot working welding robot 'Goknuri' on its production site in 2020. In early 2023, the company has completed the development and started the operations of a carbon steel pipe welding cooperative robot. Unlike other generic industrial robots, this robot can weld pipe adjustment controls without safety fences or sensors, by performing collision safety analysis. The robot thereby supports human workers in the welding process, and can reduce the work time by about 60% when compared to the human workers.​
