[Research Committee News] Ship Production Technology Research Committee

The 2022 General Assembly, Steering Committee, and Research Presentation of the Ship Production Technology Research Committee were held in Mokpo National Maritime University on Thursday, October 20 and Friday, October 21. The research presentation was attended by 120 experts in the field of shipbuilding and offshore production from large domestic shipbuilding companies, industries, academia, and research institutes, and became a venue for creative and productive academic exchanges. The research group, which consists of five subcommittees—production system, machining technology, automation, welding, and painting method—gave research presentations for each subsection.

A total of 40 research papers and recent issues in each division, including the on-site introduction of the Fourth Industrial Revolution technology and smart shipyard construction, which have recently been attracting attention in the industry, were discussed with great enthusiasm. The research presentation was a venue for in-depth discussions on the future development direction of the shipbuilding and marine industry by looking back on the path taken so far.

In his opening remarks, Chairman Hwan-gyu Kim  said, “As China's pursuit of cheap labor costs intensifies, sophistication of production technology becomes more important, and in order to respond to this, I hope that more expert groups and production technology experts from industry, academia, and research institutes will become a venue for mutual exchange and information sharing,” expressing his feelings about holding the event.

In addition, Program Director Min-cheol Ryu, the Korea Evaluation Institute of Industrial Technology, was invited to hold a special session on “Introduction to the intellectualization of small parts production and the planning of the digital transformation manufacturing innovation technology development project in the shipbuilding industry.” Because of the keen interest in knowledge exchange, this research meeting was attended by more people than expected, and presentations and discussions were also conducted in a passionate atmosphere.
