[SNAK News] 2022 Korean Association of Ocean Science and Technology Societies (KAOSTS) Joint Conference

The Korean Association of Ocean Science and Technology Societies (KAOSTS) that takes the lead in the development of marine technologies in Korea held 「2022 Joint Academic Conference of KAOSTS」 in participation of Korea’s leading 6 academic societies of marine technologies to explore ways for sustainable development based on advanced marine technologies in the midst of growing uncertainties and social, environmental, and economic ‘crises’ as follows:

2022 Joint Academic Conference of KAOSTS was held under the theme of a “sustainable future led by marine technologies” with the attendance of about 2,500 marine technological experts via online/offline and 1,252 papers were presented during the event. 


In his keynote speech at the joint symposium, director Insik Lee of Knowledge Convergence Research Lab presented on ‘green technologies learn from nature’. In the designated discussion held in the participation of 6 academic societies, panelists talked about a sustainable future led by marine technologies. 


The joint workshops and session presentations by academic society were held under the topics of social sustainability, ecological sustainability, and economic sustainability and they served as venues for various academic discussions to enhance their expertise in each area and strengthen interdisciplinary convergence. 


In the ceremony of ‘Future Ocean Science & Technology Awards’ that select the best academic paper presenters among Korean graduate students majoring in marine technologies for the purpose of continued development and nurturing of future research talent in the area of marine technologies since 2017, 16 students were chosen in final as the winners of Grad Prize, First Prize, and Special Prize to boost the morale and inspire confidence of young researchers related to the academic development of marine technologies. 


During 2022 Joint Academic Conference of KAOSTS, marine scientists and engineers renewed their commitment to strive for the development of marine technologies to secure the driver of economic growth, nurture talent to lead the development of marine technologies, help citizens better understand marine technologies, and promote the marine culture.
